What is the difference between a common noun and a proper noun?
A common noun refers to general people, places, or things, while a proper noun refers to specific people, places, things, or institutions. A common noun is something that you cannot identify accurately because it needs specifics. When someone talks about a car, you cannot accurately identify which car because the person needs to be specific, such as what the model of the car is and its brand. This is where proper nouns come in. When it comes to cars, we often talk about brands, so in terms of this, proper nouns include Hyundai, Porche, Tesla, and many more—all of which the first letters should be capitalized.
